The Heart Behind Lulu
Lulu Tru opened its doors in 2013, but the story behind it began a few years earlier.
In 2009, my dad was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a progressive lung disease that changed the way our family thought about health, our environment and the things we surround ourselves with every day. Shortly after Lulu opened, he received his first single-lung transplant in 2013, followed by a second single-lung transplant in 2017.
Watching everything my dad went through profoundly shaped the vision I had for Lulu. I wanted to create more than a salon. I dreamed of a wellness-centered space where beauty could exist alongside a greater awareness of the products we use, the air we breathe and the environment we create for the people who spend time here.
We lost my dad to COVID in 2022, but his influence is still woven into Lulu. He is the reason clean air and thoughtfully chosen products have always mattered so much to me. He is the reason wellness was part of the vision from the very beginning.
And, quite simply, he is my hero.

From a Vision to a Place
Finding a home for Lulu gave me the opportunity to bring that vision to life in a space with a story of its own.
I've always had a soft spot for historic buildings and the process of imagining what an old space could become. Our home in the heart of Burton gave me exactly that opportunity. Over the years, the building has been renovated, expanded and transformed into the salon, spa and boutique you see today.
Creating spaces has become one of the things I love most, taking something with history and character and giving it a new purpose without losing what made it special in the first place.
Like Lulu itself, this building has continued to evolve. And I have a feeling we're not finished yet.
Growing & Evolving
More than a decade later, Lulu looks a little different than it did when we first opened our doors and I think that's a beautiful thing. We've grown, expanded, changed direction, welcomed new faces and continued to evolve along with our industry and our community. Today, Lulu is home to both independent beauty and wellness professionals and members of the Lulu team, each bringing their own talents and personality to our space.
Along the way, the boutique has become another part of Lulu that I truly love. What began as an extension of the salon has grown into a thoughtfully curated collection of gifts, accessories, self-care favorites and products I genuinely enjoy discovering and sharing. Through every version of Lulu, the intention has remained remarkably simple: create a beautiful, welcoming space, fill it with good people and make those who walk through our doors feel at home.
Meet Our Founder
Hi, I'm Dawn, founder and owner of Lulu Tru.
Before opening Lulu, I spent nearly 20 years in the optical industry, a career I've since found my way back to part-time. But I've always loved creating, whether it's transforming a space, finding the perfect piece for the boutique or simply dreaming up what could come next.
Burton is home for me in every sense of the word. I raised my three children here, all graduates of Berkshire, and there's something incredibly meaningful about owning a business in the same community where our family grew up.
Today, some of my favorite parts of Lulu are the ones I get to curate - discovering unique pieces for the boutique, developing our Wild Iris Apothecary collection and continuing to shape a space that feels warm, beautiful and distinctly Lulu.
Outside of Lulu, I'm happiest doing the quieter things I love: hiking, yoga, reading, and most of all, spending time with my family.
What began with a deeply personal inspiration has grown into something I could never have completely imagined in 2013.
Lulu has changed over the years, and I know it will continue to change. But the heart behind it will always remain the same.
